EXCELLENT Based on 154 reviews Posted on Melissa TJuly 14, 2025Verified Unforgettable Adventure Day with Best Tours CR! We traveled from Playa Grande with a group of 12 adults for an adventure-packed day at Hacienda Guachipelín — and it exceeded every expectation! From start to finish, everything was seamless. Yeudy and his team made coordinating a large group effortless with clear communication and genuine hospitality. We horseback rode through gorgeous scenery to the Las Chorreras Waterfall (absolutely stunning!), soared through the zip lines and hanging bridges, had a blast tubing down the river, and finished the day relaxing in the hot springs. The perfect mix of adrenaline and pura vida relaxation. The private service made it feel personal and unrushed, and every guide we met along the way was kind, knowledgeable, and fun.If you’re visiting Guanacaste — with family, friends, or even a big group like ours — Best Tours CR should be at the top of your list. Thank you, Yeudy, for helping make our trip unforgettable! We’ll definitely be back.— The Chillbillies 🇨🇷 July 2025Posted on Randall lJuly 1, 2025Verified Jehudy an excellent tour guide. Jehudy is an excellent guide. I think he's a super interesting person with a lot of knowledge and experience in what he does. 100% recommended.Posted on Mary CNovember 3, 2024Verified Perfection! What an amazing experience we had! My sister and I booked two excursions with Jodi and can't say enough about his insight, professionalism, knowledge and kindness. We visited Vandara and the whole day was spectacular from ziplining, horseback riding and wonderful soaking time in the hot springs. The staff at Vandara were accommodating, encouraging and a whole lot of fun! Our second trip was a UTV tour where we went to 5 different beaches and lookouts. It was a perfect day and our guides were so sweet! I would recommend booking with Best Tours CR for all of your excursions in Costa Rica!Posted on Cosmopolitan783385September 2, 2024Verified Very highly recommended - the best of the best! Yeudy was absolutely the best tour guide and host we had the pleasure of spending time with during our two weeks in Costa Rica. Everything was provided and planned with special care and consideration, and it was obvious from the beginning he takes great pride in sharing the best of Costa Rica, and offering as much of his time and attention as is called for in each situation. And, unlike some other operators, Yeudy is all about that personal attention - He has chosen to keep his business small in order to fully preserve the quality and personal touch of your experience. Very highly recommended!Posted on Sarina GJune 25, 2024Verified Pura Vida! Yeudy was recommended to me from a friend who took tours with him a previous summer. I traveled to Costa Rica with a group of 40 friends and family this June and we enjoyed multiple excursions with Best Tours Costa Rica. Yeudy was very responsive and accommodating to our large group. He answered our many questions so promptly via Whats App. Yeudy is very knowledgeable and personable. We were pleasantly surprised that Yeudy greeted some of us at the airport that booked roundtrip transfers to our hotel, and he was there when we took the shuttle back to the airport. He provided drinks, snacks and even a personalized surprise for one of our kids celebrating a birthday. If you’re seeking adventure, wildlife encounters, and expert guidance, I highly recommend Best Tours Costa Rica. Thank you, Yeudy for a memorable vacation! Pura Vida!Posted on Michael DJune 23, 2024Verified Best Vacation Ever! Yeudi…we’ll be back😊 We travelled with a large group of friends and family and booked our two all day excursions with Yeudi. He was so passionate, patient, knowledgeable and gracious accommodating 40 of us in. Adults, young teens, middle school kids. Plenty of snacks for everyone, juice and water for the kids, and lots of beer for the adults. Lunch was booked for our large group at local restaurants so we all experienced some of the best local, home cooking (one of the restaurant had an added attraction of having a butterfly 🦋 sanctuary). Our first excursion: tubing thru a river in the jungle (what an unexpected fun and exciting adventure…we were expecting a lazy river experience since we had younger kids but it turned to level 3-4 white water rafting adventure…kids and adults all loved it and everyone was safe and survived); Ziplining was next thru the jungle, 7 or 8 sections thru jungle, mountain canopy…so much fun for adults and kids; then ended the first day with trek thru the jungle to bathe our aching bodies in hot springs. Second excursion was a drive to the rain forest to see sloths and other wildlife (highly recommend) followed by a trip and hike to swim under waterfall. Yeudi was so thoughtful and remembered one of our teen’s bday and surprised our group with a cake at the waterfall! Yeudi even pulled the big tour bus over when all the kids saw McDonald’s 🤣😋😋Posted on Jordan LApril 29, 2024Verified Nicaragua to Costa Rica Using this company was absolutely perfect! We did the ATV Tour as well as the hanging bridges and our group of 6 absolutely loved it. We came across the Nicaragua border and they helped to ensure we were able to get across safely and timely as well as return back to where we were staying in Nicaragua. Highly suggest if you are staying in San Juan del sur to use this company for excursions in Costa Rica!Posted on Randy MJanuary 23, 2024Verified Costa Rica tourist Trip with the best Tourist Co in CR Yeudy (Jodi as he likes to be called for us English speaking folks), was absolutely phenomenal! Very engaging, and we feel like we got a costa Rican education on the way to zip lining and the hot springs. It was my wife and I's 30 th wedding anniversary and Yeudy made it a very special day. Surprisingly to us, he made arrangements with the bar tender near the hot springs to set up a small area overlooking the hot springs, with a bottle of champagne and balloons congratulating us on our 30 th! What a guy! I think he was equally excited about the surprise as we were! Going to add some photos so you can see what a great experience this was. Highly recommend and will be sending tourists his way. Thanks again Yeudy for making this a special day. Oh, almost forgot, he even stopped on the way back to Dreams BC he spotted a family of Holler monkeys playing in the trees---got a lot of nice pics from that random surprise.Posted on ZammamaJanuary 4, 2024Verified Great Morning ATV with Tony and Roy We had a great morning exploring with Tony and Roy. They were both so informative and friendly. We saw a lot of wildlife and learned a lot about the history of the area. At all times, we felt safe. I would definitely recommend this tour!! Best Tours in Guanacaste: Top Adventures and Nature Experiences 🏝️
Guanacaste is Costa Rica’s sun‑baked “Golden Coast” 🇨🇷. Blessed with year‑round dry weather, long beaches and easy access through Liberia International Airport, it’s one of the most popular regions for U.S. travelers. While many visitors arrive for the beaches, Guanacaste offers much more than just sun and sand: volcanic national parks, white‑water rivers and unique wildlife make it an all‑around adventure playground. To learn more about the province, visit the official tourism portal. This guide curates the best tours and activities in Guanacaste, helping you plan an unforgettable trip.
Top Water & Beach Adventures 🌊
Snorkeling and Diving at Catalina Islands 🐠
The Catalina Islands – a group of volcanic rock formations off the Guanacaste coast – are one of Costa Rica’s top diving and snorkeling destinations. Tours depart from Playas del Coco or Flamingo and include two dive or snorkeling sessions with the chance to spot turtles, manta rays and, during the right season, whales and dolphins. If you’re not a certified diver, many operators offer “Discover Scuba” programs or guided snorkeling trips to enjoy the marine life.
Sunset Catamaran Cruises ⛵
Few experiences beat sailing into the Pacific sunset. Catamaran tours leave from the marinas at Flamingo or Papagayo and take you along the coast to secluded bays for swimming and snorkeling. On board, enjoy cocktails and fresh fruit while watching the sun melt into the ocean. This activity is perfect for couples and families alike, and most tours include transportation from your hotel.
Surf Lessons at Tamarindo 🏄♂️
World‑famous Tamarindo Beach offers consistent waves for beginners and pros. Surf schools provide boards and expert instructors who teach you how to paddle, pop up and ride safely. After mastering the basics, explore Tamarindo town’s vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene. Tamarindo forms part of the Municipality of Santa Cruz, where you’ll also find beaches like Playa Conchal and Brasilito.
Sport Fishing and Kayaking 🎣
Guanacaste’s roots lie in fishing, and today you can try your hand at catching snapper, mahi‑mahi and wahoo. Half‑ and full‑day charters depart from Flamingo, Coco, Samara and Tamarindo. For regulations on sport fishing, consult the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). Alternatively, explore mangroves and tranquil coves by kayak; several outfitters offer tours that combine paddling with birdwatching.
Adventure & Nature Tours 🚣♂️
White‑Water Rafting on the Tenorio River 🚣♂️
For adrenaline seekers, the Tenorio River offers class III–IV rapids that wind through lush forest. Tours usually include transfers from Guanacaste beaches, professional guides and safety gear. You’ll paddle through canyon walls, navigate thrilling drops and enjoy sightings of birds and monkeys along the banks.
Canopy and Zip‑Lining Tours 🌳
Glide through the tropical dry forest like a bird! Zip‑line parks in Guanacaste—such as Guachipelín, Diamante Eco Adventure Park and Black Stallion—offer platforms, suspension bridges and even a Superman cable with ocean views. For safety guidelines and park regulations, consult SINAC. Many tours can be combined with horseback riding, hot springs or mud baths for a full‑day adventure.
Hiking in Rincón de la Vieja National Park 🥾
Rincón de la Vieja is one of Guanacaste’s most diverse national parks. Its two sectors (Las Pailas and Santa María) feature bubbling mud pots, volcanic fumaroles, waterfalls and rivers. Hiking trails range from gentle loops to challenging waterfall treks. Check the official Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) website for opening hours and ticket reservations. After your hike, relax in nearby hot springs or sign up for tubing and canopy adventures at adjacent eco‑lodges.
Llanos del Cortés Waterfall 🌊
Just outside Liberia, the Llanos del Cortés waterfall cascades into a wide swimming hole surrounded by a sandy beach. It’s an ideal morning excursion and one of the best low‑cost activities for families. For information on hours and facilities, visit the Municipality of Bagaces. Pair it with an afternoon zip‑line or wildlife tour to make the most of your day.
National Parks & Wildlife Experiences 🐾
Palo Verde Boat Safari 🦩
The wetlands of Palo Verde National Park are a birdwatcher’s dream. Boat tours along the Tempisque River allow you to spot herons, egrets, crocodiles and monkeys. Visits can be arranged from most beach towns and often include a typical Costa Rican lunch.
Santa Rosa & Las Baulas National Parks 🐢
Santa Rosa National Park, though remote, protects dry forest and legendary surf breaks like Witch’s Rock. Las Baulas National Park safeguards leatherback turtle nesting beaches; evening tours during nesting season let you witness these giants lay eggs under the stars (permits required).
Wildlife Sanctuaries 🦜
If you prefer guaranteed wildlife sightings, visit a rescue center such as Diamante Adventure Park’s sanctuary. Here you’ll see sloths, toucans and jaguars in a controlled environment that supports rehabilitation and conservation. For information on wildlife protection efforts, consult MINAE. Combine a sanctuary visit with zip‑lining or beach time for a varied day.
Day Trips from Guanacaste 🚗
While Guanacaste has plenty to keep you busy, it also serves as a gateway to other Costa Rican highlights. Day tours to Arenal Volcano or Monteverde Cloud Forest are possible, although travel times are long (about three hours each way). A more relaxed option is a day trip to the turquoise Rio Celeste and the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where you can hike to a surreal blue waterfall and soak in natural hot springs.
Planning Your Trip ✈️
When to Visit ☀️/🌧️
The dry season (December–April) brings nearly continuous sunshine and high temperatures, ideal for beach activities. The rainy season (May–November) turns the landscape lush green; mornings are often clear with showers in the afternoon and evening. It’s also prime time for whale watching and turtle nesting.
Getting There and Around 🚐
Fly into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia; major U.S. airlines offer direct flights, and the main beach towns are roughly an hour away. You can find travel tips and route information on the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT) website. Renting a car gives you the flexibility to explore the province, but many tour operators include transportation from hotels. If you’re staying at a resort and don’t plan to drive, book tours with pickup service.
Where to Stay 🏨
Guanacaste offers everything from luxury resorts in the Papagayo Peninsula to boutique hotels in Tamarindo, Samara and Nosara. Papagayo and Liberia fall under the Municipality of Liberia, while Tamarindo belongs to the Municipality of Santa Cruz and Samara/Nosara to the Municipality of Nicoya. Choose a base that matches your preferred activities—Papagayo for upscale amenities and quiet beaches, Tamarindo for surf and nightlife, and Samara or Nosara for laid‑back vibes and yoga retreats.
