A rainforest day from Guanacaste
This is an active nature excursion. Come for the forest, the river and the waterfall, with realistic expectations about the walk and the weather.
Travel from your Guanacaste hotel to Tenorio Volcano National Park, walk through the rainforest with a guide, and descend the staircase to the Río Celeste waterfall viewpoint. Your day also includes a traditional Costa Rican lunch, a souvenir-shopping stop and a return transfer to your hotel.
Know the trail before you book
Allow around two hours for a guided walk to the waterfall and back, including time at the viewpoint. The staircase must be climbed again on the return, so the route still requires stamina.
Allow around three hours when continuing toward the park’s other viewpoints and river features, such as Laguna Azul, Los Borbollones and Los Teñideros. Your guide will adjust the walk to trail conditions, access and your group’s pace.
More than a photograph
The waterfall is the highlight, but the forest walk and the changing river views are part of the experience. On the longer route, spend more time noticing the landscape with your guide instead of rushing between photo stops.
Private transportation keeps the travel portion exclusive to your party. Choose Gold or Silver for a private guided hike, Bronze for shared guiding at the location, or Corporate for a coordinated larger-group program.

Walk the rainforest trail to the waterfall viewpoint. Continue on the longer route when selected and when trail access, conditions and your group’s pace allow.
Enjoy time by the river outside the protected area. Any swimming is outside the national park and depends on suitable water conditions.
Sit down to a local lunch after your rainforest walk.
Allow around 30 minutes to browse locally before continuing toward your hotel.

My husband and I started off the the day early hoping for a true rainforest adventure - Yeudy did not disappoint!!! We swam around a beautiful waterfall, hiked to Rio Celeste waterfall, had an authentic lunch at a butterfly garden and finished off the day ogling over sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, vipers and a whole lot more wildlife. (Wishing now we would have kept a list!) Yeudy was a wealth of information on the history, and culture of the different areas we’d visiting and was a top notch tour guide who we’d recommend to anyone seeking an adventure!

Yeudy is definitely a great tour guide!!! He showed us the beauty of Rio Celeste, which was amazing, no pic editing needed, the colours of the water are unreal! Yeudy also took us on a sloth tour and hanging bridges! He is a walking encyclopedia, has so much knowledge and passion about the wildlife. Plan with confidence
Allow approximately 11 hours from hotel pickup to return. The guided walk itself is usually around two hours for the waterfall-focused route or around three hours for a longer route. Your hotel, pace, weather and traffic affect the final timing.
The activity level is medium to hard. Expect slopes, uneven ground, possible mud and a steep staircase to the waterfall viewpoint. Good physical condition and secure walking shoes are important.
The hike is best suited to active children over 5 and adults who are comfortable walking and using stairs. Children’s PayPal pricing covers ages 5–11; discuss suitability before booking. Older adults should assess their walking ability. The waterfall route is not wheelchair accessible, although limited introductory rainforest access may be possible. This hike is not offered for pregnant travelers.
No swimming is included inside Tenorio Volcano National Park. The itinerary’s river stop takes place outside the protected area, where swimming depends on suitable water and operating conditions.
No. The color varies with rainfall and river conditions. December through April often brings clearer conditions, while May through November has a greater likelihood of rain. The blue color and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Gold includes a private SUV and private guided hike. Silver includes a private van and private guided hike. Bronze includes private van transportation and shared guiding at the location. Corporate coordinates larger-group logistics. Private guiding does not give exclusive access to the national park.
